Wifi on Airfiber 24 dropping consistantly

Hi There,

I have the Airifber 24 and am using it to connect two offices together about 1000ft apart. I haven't had issues since I set it up about a year ago. When I logged into one of the radios todau however I noticed the signal flucating heavily ever few seconds. It's very consistent and just started within the past few days. I have made no network changes nor have I touched the PTP radios. I attached an image of the signal so you can view what I am seeing. Has anyone had any experience or have any ideas as to why this started all of the sudden? Any helpful advice on how to troubleshoot this effectively?

Note: I rebooted both radios, but nothing improved.

Thanks so much!

How much does the signal fluctuate?

Are you seeing the signal change or just the capacity?

Are you seeing packet loss or any other performance issues?

Thanks for the reply Nick.

I don't get any packet drops, but I do get a reduction of capacity randomly. The screenshot below was taken a few minutes ago. The signal itself doesn't flucuate to much. If you look at when the capacity drops the signal is about the same as when we have full capacity. capacity.PNG

If the signal isn't actually fluctuating much, then it looks like your link is misaligned. I would fine tune your alignment until its perfect before looking into other possibilities.

Also, you have the power turned down on one side.

Once you turn the power up and realign, the link should be much more stable.

Re: Wifi on Airfiber 24 dropping consistantly

Nick,

I can work on alligning the radios. Do you have any advice on how to allign them properly? Any guide on the best ways to allign with the allignment tool by chance?

Also, what are the white lines about? That's what concerns me the most. It looks as though the signal is dropping completely every second, but it's not. Any ideas why the white lines are so consistant?

You can take a look at this article.

As for the capacity drops, I'm not sure at the moment. Let's see if its still happening once you have the proper signal.

Thanks Nick, I will fix the allignment issue first. Is there a way to measure throughput over a period of time to get an average throughput at specific times?

SNMP is a very common method of monitoring. You could use something like LibreNMS.

Also, if you upgrade to the most current beta, you can just add the AFs to UNMS.
