Persistent DFS hits after reboot

I scheduled a reboot of some of our APs for 5 am this morning.

The non-DFS APs are happy.

However, one AP that was on DFS, running fixed-frame GPS sync, has had constant DHS hits since the reboot.

Before the reboot it was very stable staying in it's assigned frequency for over 2 months.

I've rebooted it few times and it always reports seeing radar on the DFS frequencies.

For the moment, I've left it in UNII-3, but had to switch to a 20 MHz channel and Flex-Legacy.

The AP and it's stations were running v8.51 when it rebooted. After a few reboots I upgraded everything to 8.5.7. No difference.

Ideas, suggestions?

Re: Persistent DFS hits after reboot

Would it be possible to try the latest beta on one of these APs?  The 8.5.8-BETA branch some DFS improvements RE: False hits.  Technically, this was added in the 8.5.6-BETA branch, but that branch has been renamed to 8.5.8.

Re: Persistent DFS hits after reboot

Followup question.

Once the AP log file entries like the following

Non Occupancy List entry expired for freq 5515

can I switch the AP to a cleared DFS channel w/o a new CAC check?

Update: No, The AP will perform a new CAC whenever the frequency is changed. Expiration does not mean the frequency is clear. Posted the follow-up before the caffeine had kicked in...

Re: Persistent DFS hits after reboot

[ Edited ]

We've seen the same thing on just a few APs since about firmware version 8.5.1 I believe. We setup an Alert in Air Control to reboot the AP when there are no clients connected. The DFS-channel APs seem to reboot 3 times before stabilizing. We set each AP with 3 frequencies and have found that they reboot and come back at the next frequency in the last. We don't have this problem on non-DFS channels. And most of the time, we do NOT have an issue UNLESS we reboot one of these APs. Once we do, we get this DFS-like loop. If we don't reboot the AP, we won't see the issue.

Some specifics:

ROCKET 5AC LITE | XC.V8.5.7

TDD FRAMING = Flexible (NEW)

AP1 = Bridge mode w/ 30 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

AP2 = Bridge mode w/ 44 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

AP3 = Bridge mode w/ 35 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

AP4 = Bridge mode w/ 14 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

AP5 = Bridge mode w/ 12 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

AP6 = Bridge mode w/ 12 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

ROCKET 5AC PTMP | XC.V8.5.7

TDD FRAMING = Flexible (NEW)

AP7 = Bridge mode w/ 51 clients, PtMP airMax Mixed, 20MHz channel

Yes. I will do that tomorrow morning and try to catch any .sup files for you if it happens.

v8.5.8-beta2 solved the problem. The AP came up and stuck the assigned DFS frequency. Much better. The clients all look good though I still need to grade them as well.

So far things look much better!

Thanks!

Re: Persistent DFS hits after reboot

Confirmed. 8.5.8-beta2 solved the problem for us too. I installed it on 1 AP Saturday and we had no issues. Today I rebooted that same AP (which would have started the reboot loop) and it was fine. Today I installed it on 2 other APs and those are still fine too.

Glad to hear the beta is fixing it for you.
