Bullet5M Link slow with AirMax enabled

I just upgraded a 7Mile link from Bullet5 to Bullet5M. Bullet5 got about 11Mbps and Bullet5M got about 14-20Mbps with a TX/RX rate of 150/150. After a few hours of changing settings I found that if I dissabled AirMax the link would max out my router at 30M+ TCP. With the AirMax enabled I was lucky to get 12-15Mbps TCP. I'm using a 3' and 2' dish and link signal is:

Signal Strength: -61 dBm
Connections: 1
Noise Floor: -96 dBm
Transmit CCQ: 100 %
TX/RX Rate: 150.0 Mbps / 150.0 Mbps
AirMax: Disabled

This link is in WDS mode with WPA2 and RC2 firmware.

While AimMax was enabled the station reported Airmax Quality of 96% and Capacity of 48%.

Should the AirMax feature be turned off in WDS mode?

Why such a major performance loss?

Re: Bullet5M Link slow with AirMax enabled

Can you turn off WDS mode as well and test it like that or is this not an option, I'm not sure but I suspect like you WDS and AirMax together is where the issue is.
Also what brand of dish are you using, nothing related to your condition I was just looking for a good dish while we wait for the Rocket Dish.

Don't want to turn off WDS as this a major backhaul and I don't want proxxy arp issues.

We use Pac Wireless Grids and Dishes.

Hi cybersaver,
Could you upgrade your units to the AIROS 5.0.2-RC version found on the forum post (www.ubnt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13159).
Moreover could you allow remote access to your devices for us to analyze the issue.

That is the firmware I am using. I'm not going to touch the link as it is working for over 24hrs now and It's a 2hr drive to reach the radio if it fails.

Re: Bullet5M Link slow with AirMax enabled

Hi, I just installed a Bullet5M on a 10 mile link with much the same behaviour

Signal Strength: -68 dBm
Connections: 1
Noise Floor: -96 dBm
Transmit CCQ: 100 %
TX/RX Rate: 150.0 Mbps / 150.0 Mbps
AirMax: Enabled
Antennae: 2x 2' dishes 29dBi
Ack timing: 150

Have tried the link link in AP/Client WDS mode and Standard AP/Client with and without WPA2 encryption with 5.0.2 release firmware. None of these changes seemed to affect throughput.

While AirMax was enabled the station reported Airmax Quality of 91% and Capacity of 48%.

Maximum throughput of the link is around 6-7 mbps. Ping times stay sub 20ms when loaded.

If AirMax is disabled, 12+Mbps TCP throughput is possible, maxing my other equipment.

Before installation, I set the units up back to back, achieving a 40-50dB signal, Airmax Quality of 99%, but Capacity was still 48%. This link would move 30-40Mbps during testing.

Any ideas?

Re: Bullet5M Link slow with AirMax enabled

With airmax at least 70mbps, whithout airmax only ~40mbps; 9km, 30dBi grid,
Signal Strength: -65 dBm
Noise Floor: -96 dBm
Transmit CCQ: 90 %
TX/RX Rate: 121.5 Mbps / 121.5 Mbps
AirMax: Enabled
AirMax Quality: 93 %
AirMax Capacity: 39 %
