NanoBeam AC Gen2 PtMP with Rocket 5AC Prism Gen1

I am trying to setup the NanoBeam Gen2 as a PtMP Station with the Rocket Prism Gen1.  The only way I can make it to work is by enabling control frequency list on both the Rocket and NanoBeam Gen2 and selecting the same frequency from the list.  I never have to do this when I setup the NanoBeam Gen1.  Any idea why I have to enable the control frequency list for the NanoBeam Gen2?

Set to 5825/20Mhz (not auto) on the access point initially, and depending on bandwidth requirement, we can work through channel widths next.   Leave the Nanobeam Gen2 as Auto 20/40, and do not set a control list either.

The Gen2 comes UNII activated, the Gen1 Prism uses DTS, which allows usage of frequencies outside of the allowed band edges certified for the Gen2. Moving the Prism AP away from the band edge will allow the Gen2 Nanobeam to associate.

This isn't necessary. I would suspect some other misconfiguration in a situation like you describe. Do you also have the firmware up to date?

That's what I thought.  And yes my firmware on all the devices are up to date.  I even sent all my screenshot for the main, wireless and network to the Ubiquiti chat support and the only suggestion they have was to enable the control frequency.

At a glance I'd expect this to work, unless I am missing something. Have you checked the WPA2 PSK between both ends?

Yes.  I made sure of it.  I don't quite understand why I need to enable the Control Frequency List and select a channel on both the Rocket and NanoBeam Gen2 it to connect PtMP.

I don't see why that would be required either - can you show the full channel list?

Try setting both channel bandwidths to 20MHz

Re: NanoBeam AC Gen2 PtMP with Rocket 5AC Prism Gen1

I can only change the Channel Width on the rocket to from 40 to 20MHz.  The nanobeams can only be set to AUTO 20/40MHz, 30MHz or 10MHz.  Changing the rocket to 20MHz did not help.  I still need to enable control freq scan list on both unit and select a specific channel.  Right now i have it using 5835.

Re: NanoBeam AC Gen2 PtMP with Rocket 5AC Prism Gen1

WisTech,

NanoBeam Gen2 U-NII enabled Is that the reason why I have to set the Rocket Prism Gen1 to 5825/20MHz?  Will I have to do the same on the Rocket Prism Gen2?

Thanks.

Re: NanoBeam AC Gen2 PtMP with Rocket 5AC Prism Gen1

@roypnoy - Yes, since the Gen1 is on auto frequency, if it selects a frequency outside of the limits of the Gen2 Nanobeam, it will not associate. You will have to do the same on any Gen2 (or any UNII-activated non-DTS ruleset device).

Is there a way to disable U-NII on the Gen2?

Re: NanoBeam AC Gen2 PtMP with Rocket 5AC Prism Gen1

Unfortunately, no. This device was certified under new requirements/rules. The old, however, can be updated to new UNII rules, see here: https://www.ui.com/fcclabelrequest/ - Be sure to apply the new sticker to each device that you activate.
