Nanobeam 5AC Gen2 eth0 flapping.

Hey guys, I recently replaced a Nanobeam 5AC-19 with a Nanobeam 5AC Gen2 because the original unit started to disconnect and reconnect via it's ethernet interface.

 

The cable run is an outdoor rated Cat6 cable under eaves, running to an Ubiquiti 48-500W switch that's only using around 20W of power.

 

The port is configured for 24v passive to the Nanobeam.

 

I got reports that people were having phone calls disconnected at the client side of the bridge and this is what I see on both the UNMS controller and the Nanobeam 5ac gen2

So it's definately the Access Point unit and not the client unit.

 

I tested the cable and all pairs are good, I tried setting the switch to manual speed (duplex 1000mbps) and that didn't work. I'm running firmware 8.5.12 on both units. Only the Gen2 is showing the flapping issue which is the reason why I replaced the original unit since support told me it's out of warranty and needed to be replaced.

 

I tried different ports on the switch, tried the included injector and still this. Any insite or help is appreciated.

If you log in via SSH, could you share the output of this command?

 

ethtool -S eth0

 

Are there any other radios located near the AP NBE5AC?

 

What is the approximate length of the ethernet run from USW -> AP NBE5AC?

SNR for pair 0, dB : 30
SNR for pair 1, dB : 30
SNR for pair 2, dB : 30
SNR for pair 3, dB : 30
Cable length,m (+/- 20m) : 0

 

Cable length is around 40 feet or so.~12.2 meters.

I did change the port to auto negotiation on the switch side and it settled on 100mb full duplex without going down. Is this another dead or dying ethernet port? I thought the eth0 flapping issue was only on the gen1 units.

Was Auto-negotiation not enabled on both the radio and USW?

 

In your original post, you mention replacing an NBE5AC-19 due to ethernet issues at this site (with this GEN2), but are still having trouble?  

 

Also, the NBE5AC-19 never had ethernet issues, only some NBE5AC-16 units manufactured before 1706 (week-year).

That’s what support told me when I sent them the support files that the Ethernet pet was failing. That’s why I purchased a Gen2 unit. 

 

Is the signal strength for the wire within specs? Why would an Ethernet port go offline and online like this for any other reason?

I have two Unifi 48-500w switches and tried it on both switches to rule out a bad switch and still the same issues. What stops it from flapping is when it settles to 100mbps

@UBNT-James When I was having issues with the Gen1 unit, I found that setting the ethernet port on the switch to 100mbps fixed the issue until the unit died. I switched it back to auto after I replaced the Gen1 with the gen2 unit after a few weeks of operation.

Are there any other transmitters co-located with this NBE?  Specifically FM or VHF?

 

Do you recall approximately when you purchased this GEN2 unit?

@UBNT-James  There is nothing between the two units or close to the two units that is radio related. One is mounted on a wall that has cedar siding and the other is mounted on a concrete wall. It's a direct line of site between two buildings with nothing in between and nothing next to each unit.

 

I purchased this new unit on February 8th of this year from Invictus Wireless here in Oregon.

I had a similar issue, where an AP first started losing ping packets, and within 2 days, it went completely off-line. I couldn't connect to it via the cabled connection any more. I had a basic cable tester that showed all pairs fine, but when I used a tester that certifies a run to be up to Cat5 spec, it failed even passing the test at 10Mbps.

So I replaced the cable between the switch and the AP, and all was good, 1Gig speed.

The old cable had minor sign of some physical abuse. As if someone took a needle and made small holes on the outside jacket. I have no idea what that was.It almost seemed like some birds with sharp claws grabbed onto it and punctured the insulation here and there. It was a roughly 60ft run, outdoor rated cable, but free run across the roof.

 

I'm not sure how feaible it is, but you might want to try a spare cable between the switch and the AP.
