Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

Trying to connect Gen2 powerbeam to my sectors with rocket AC Prisms first Gen. Will not connect unless I'm on a frequency that the the AP scans for. Some of my AP are not on  center frequency. I see it on the scan I click on it and it will not lock unless I change my AP frequency. Unfortunately I can't. Is there a way around this? M gear and first Gen AC links to my AP's just fine. Thanks in advance

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

The M series gear, and your Gen1 Prism were certified under DTS rules... All Gen2 hardware has UNII rules pre-activated, which have very strict out of band emissions limits. Utilize frequencies away from band edges so your Gen2 gear will associate. If you want access to the same frequencies available within the Gen2 hardware, please follow the link below to apply for updated FCC labels and UNII activation key:

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

So it is possible to do this without changing my AP channels. Is there a new activation code other than the one I have already had for a couple years that allows me to not use center frequency.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

The activation code is used in each DTC-certified radio you have. You will need to apply the new FCC label to each unit also. This will then match available frequencies with the new requirements that the Gen2 units have.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

So if I just set my AP's to center frequency that should work? If I go the other route I would have to add new code to all existing AP'S and CPE's just to get the new Gen2 to talk to my AP's? Am I understanding it correctly?

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

That's correct, the devices have different certifications, so different channel availability. If you manually configure your Gen1 away from the band edges, the Gen2 hardware associates, and operates normally. If you configure the Gen1 on a center frequency that isn't available in the Gen2, it will not associate.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

Could you provide a list of channel number and frequency's these Gen 2 will lock to.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

I can use all those if I activate new rules correct? If I don't want to what one's can I use without needing activation code.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

Correct. Compare your available channel list in your Gen1 device using DTS rules. You will have far less channel selection with a DTS-certified device, but will go to the band edges like 5735, and 5840Mhz at 20Mhz channel width.

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

Sounds like I just need to get activation codes so I can use all 5ghz channels if I need to. What a pain in the butt

Re: Powerbeam Gen2 PTMP

UNII activation codes were a blessing as far as I am concerned. Extra spectrum is always welcome to me. =)

You may be overthinking this. How often are you changing frequencies? If you've come to the conclusion you just need to avoid channel 5735 and 5840, you should be able to easily make the Gen1 Prism-DTS ruleset work for your Gen2 clients.
