interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

I have a Rocket 5AC Prism v8.5.1-cs.37185 (XC) and it's haivng issue with interference.  It's on a mast which we have mutiple AirMax radios.

yesterday there was a compaint about network been slow so I've changed to channel from 5735 to 5635 which deemed to be best choise by air magic tool. everything worked great after that.

this morning, channel 5635 had high level of noise as well, so moved back to 5735,

few hours later I see this.

5AC Prism.jpg

it seems that the noise is folliwng this radio. all our radios are not nearly this channel and the confusting part is that it would be noise free for few hours and then come back to whatever I set the Raket 5AC to

Any thoughts?

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

The secondary radio is picking up the signal of the connected stations as noise.

This is something that is very difficult to get around.

If you were having trouble on 5735, go back to 5635 and ignore the noise that you see. Are the stations still having throughput issues?

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

will give it a try.

is it recommended to go to the end of the spectural like 5200, or using 10Mhz width (even it may not as fast as 20Mhz but hopeuflly it would advoid inteference issue better)?

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

There is no benefit to picking one end of the spectrum.

Some frequencies allow higher and lower EIRP values depending on your local regulations, so one channel may reduce your output power, you should see an alert on the dashboard when that happens.

The lower the channel width, the better off you are as far as interference goes. It's always best to pick the lowest possible channel width. This all depends on how much bandwidth you need.

thanks for the quick reply.
we are now back to where we were yesterday, well, worse: Noise level -39dBm at 5635

actuall through put is TX 35-60 Mbps and Rx 1Mbps on local radio

here is the station list. should I reduce the Tx of nearby stations?

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

If that distance is correct, I suggest using higher gain antennas at those locations.

OK I will keep that in mind.

in the meantime, anything else I can do regarding the interference / noise?

Not a lot unless you can specifically locate its source.

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

will have someone early next week to check on the mast but at the moment ambien noise at -39dBm and it goes away when the unit reboots or switch to another channel, noise comes back within an hour. Looks like it's from the unit itself. Not even it's client stations, they won't be -39dBm . Unless the Rocket is reading it wrong. It has got a Ubiquiti airMAX AM-M-V5G-Ti 17dBi antenna.

You may have a self-interference issue here. What does the network topology look like with distances?

the issue did come back after replacing with brand new unit. it seems to be a UI error

This is on our list to fix, and does not cause any performance issues.

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

Hey, im having the same issue and it does cause perfomance issues.

When it make its own interfence, clients response times go from 15 ms to 400 ms, also cause download and upload rate to go down. I've just changed freq on all the RAC Prism gen2 so I dont have any images of the "dark side of the moon".

I was reading some UAP were making some "scratching noises" and you made all the people with UAP's with scratching noises to fill an RMA.

I would like you to know that ALMOST ALL of my Rocket AC prism Gen 2 are making "scratching noises" and those that are making scratching noises are the ones that go crazy on self made interference.

Also I had to disable DFS in the background because it kept changing freq because of the self made interfence.

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

Seeing the same issue. Two LiteBeam LBE-5AC-23 units at 7 miles. Change the frequency, looks good for a few minutes. Then it returns. Performance is horrible. This just started happening this week. 40MHz AirMax channels.

Interestingly... we have another pair nearby, same distance roughly. Doing great and they are running 80MHz non-Airmax.

Before this problem started, we had a stable link. Now it is almost unusable.

Can you post the dashboard from both ends of the link to start with?

@erchacar I don't know what you mean by scratching noises, nor have I made anyone RMA a UAP personally. Can you clarify what is happening please?

[ Edited ]

@UBNT-SNKthe sound is like something is scratching from the inside. The RMA thing is about a post on unifi products (that made this scratching noises).

The thing is that the radio makes his own noise, if you change the freq and let it there for about 1 minute, the freq that you were before goes clean and you can go back to your freq. But later on the freq will go dark red again and you have to keep doing this thing over and over.

Also it affects the overall performace (around 80% loss in performance)download, upload and latency.

(edit) I've also changed for another new rocket and it kept doing the samething.

Re: interference / noise following every channel change on Rocket 5AC Prism

How loud is this scratching noise? I suspect you are seeing a bug with the airView UI which can show the transmissions of your own AP and CPEs are noise on the channel, but this would not affect your actual performance. How are you measuring these performance changes?
