Replacing an ER-X SFP + UniFi AC Lite with an airCube AC.

Description

Many of my customers are running ER-X SFP and one UniFi AC Lite AP.

It’s a very good solution, but expensive and a tad overkill unless several UniFi’s are used.

We desided to try a airCube AC, which might be a perfect 2-in-1 (Router + WiFi) solution for us, with a much better price tag.

With the new v.2 Beta FW just out, the airCube has PPPoE support, which we need.

Example:

1 pcs. ER-X SFP ~79$ + 1 pcs. UniFi AC Lite ~89$ = 168$

1 pcs. AirCube AC ~75$

We're very impressed what this little device can do.

This install, has 10-15 wifi devices + a few wired at any given moment, running 30-80Mbps, without a sweat.

Highly recommended.

That aircube is bigger than I thought. Looks good though. Nice clean install.

I'm just seeing this for sale on Amazon but it's not talking about routing at all, just wifi. I didn't see any DHCP mentioned on Ubiquiti's product page as well https://www.ubnt.com/accessories/aircube/ are you using features in beta or something?

I'm very excited to see this when it's available.

@abracamonte - Yes, with v2.0 beta, it unlocks some additional features that really make this product stand out.

What processor is inside? Is NAT 300mbps possible?

Is the PPOE allow Vlan tagging? Our ISP have different Vlan for cable TV and internet.

Are you a WISP or a FTTH?

@MFilmWorks17 @Paetur is a WISP on Faroe Island. I do think though, that he is also into FTTH....

I've been eyeing off the airCube AC as a solution for my mother-in-law when her FTTN connection comes live ever since I heard the 2.0 f/w supported PPPoE. Really good to see this in use and hear that it seems fairly reliable and stable. Not much in the way of documentation on this new f/w since it was released.

Appreciate the post @Paetur - would love to hear more about your experiences with this solution if anything changes, better or worse!
