Oh, OK...just wanted to make sure. Engineers tend to read things explicitly and literally as written or spoken.

Re: THS in Action

You should have seen the looks I got when I installed a Maco 4 element beam antenna on the roof with an old C-band dish tri-pod.
Then I build a new 2nd floor bath with an all Ceder vanity ceder counter top with 15 coats of latex varnish and tongue&groove pine doors 2 on each side 4 on the bottom.
I got away with a lot of crap after that!!

Re: THS in Action

Wives generally don't approve, appreciate, have the same fashion sense, or understand interior design functionality as men.

Like how many of your all's wives would let you park a farm tractor in the ceramic tile living room to work on it? Deck out the inmate bedroom with Mossy Oak sheets? Throw your clothes on the floor before jumping into bed? Let the dawgs on the living room couch? Have BBQ five nights a week? Not bring back everything on the grocery list, but things that weren't? Leaves the dirty pots and pans in the sink to soak two days?

And those are some of the reasons I prefer being married to a guy.

Re: THS in Action

My wife did tolerate it fairly well when we built the seats for our boat in the dining room - although she gave me crap for a couple years about how hard it was to get the 3M spray glue (from adhering the carpet to the bases) off the floor afterwards. And when we rebuilt the engine, she didn't complain much when all the new tools showed up and she got locked out of the garage for 3 months; even encouraged me to put a "beer fridge" out there.

When I got home from Iraq... like the first year I was home, not only was I overly paranoid about EVERYTHING, but I simply... "didn't give a ****".

I didn't care about the dirty house, ironed dress shirts, dirty dishes, etc.

All I wanted to do was play with my kids, my dog, have sex with my wife, drink lots of alcohol, shoot guns, go fishing, work on the cars/trucks, and build stuff.

You know why? Everything else is a "1st world problem".

What I was used to by the time I got home.

  • eating **** out of plastic bags
  • once a week showers, if that
  • getting shot at
  • getting blown up
  • swerving for potholes, cardboard boxes, dead animals, anything unusual in/on/under/next to the road
  • when we went out in public i checked for "printing" above wastebands, etc.
  • etc.

So by the time I hit ground in the US... damn near everything I did in my daily life that wasn't directly related to the enjoyment of my life and freedoms was irrelevant.

Now when I try to ignore all the "first world ****" my wife throws a fit. *sigh*

To live and love.

"Ironed dress shirts" draws a blank with me.
