mFI Controller and Installation Problems.

Good Morning

We recently got a client who bought the last stock of our mFI's and have a bit of problems, I was instructed to post on the forums by Ubiquiti.

Can anyone assist? Below is his query.

"The mfi controller is not accessible by the browser.
Controller loads but on clicking the "launch a browser to manage the
network" button the browser opens up and hangs on a blank screen.

Have already tried the forums and their suggestions of changing java version
back to version 7 and swapping between the 32 bit and 64 bit versions.
Have also tried the software on different versions of windows (server 2008
and windows 7)"

Kind Regards

Re: mFI Controller and Installation Problems.

1.  It's recommended to have both 32 and 64 bit Java.
2.  You must run Java 7 (8+ or <6 will not work, period).

3.  Check the required ports and make sure that both inbound and outbound traffic are allowed (clamp down with filtering if needed) in the firewall.

Re: mFI Controller and Installation Problems.

It seems like the client went through all the settings and suggestions without success.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you to those who already provided suggestions.

Which browser are you using, and do you have Flash installed/enabled?

Re: mFI Controller and Installation Problems.

The browser is not a player in this game yet, the problem is after the Mfi controller installation there are no .exe to actually launch the program.

Have you tried using a web browser on the machine where mFi is installed?

https://localhost:6443

If you get to a point where you decide it just is not going to work for you on Windows, I suggest you give the LInux install a try if you are desparate to run an mFi controller.  The information below explains what I think is the easiest way for someone with minimal Linux experience to get an mFi 2.11 or 2.12Beta controller working.

The 2.11 mFi for Linux works on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (I run it on the desktop version for the graphical interface). I believe that Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is the easiest version to get working with mFi controller. (Newer version of Ubuntu may run newer versions of Java and MongoDB that are not compatible with the mFi controller, so more effort is required.)The installation steps for 2.11 are not just point and click, but I managed to work through them, even though I am not a linux expert by any means.

At some point in the Beta forums, I found a 2.12 Beta of mFi and decided to give that a try.

I am actually running the 2.12 Beta version which is a DEB file and easy to install without doing any terminal commands. Once it is installed, it runs as a service automatically.  I think that I did have to install the openjre 7 on Ubuntu 14.04 prior to using the Software Center to install the 2.12Beta  DEB file that I downloaded.

I have been running mFi 2.12 Beta for a couple of years now, with 18 mPower devices. I don't use any of the other mFi devices.

When I log in with web browser, the "Map" tab does not work because I don't have the right version of Flash, but I don't care.

I only use the other tabs like Rules, Scenes, Energy and Devices, which do not require Flash.

I expect that even when Ubuntu 14.04 is no longer supported, I will continue running it with mFi 2.12Beta until I stop using mPower devices. Otherwise, I would just set up an HTML page with links to the IP addresses of each individual mPower device and log into each one individually when I wanted to turn ports off and on.

The posting has 5 kudos, maybe it is a good solution.

The link below will get you to the correct page, if you have access to the beta forums.

Dear All,

Thanks for the Linux suggestions but need this running on Windows.

Is mFI support only community based?

Re: mFI Controller and Installation Problems.

As I mentioned in a previous post, if you get accress to the mFi Beta forum, you can find information that might help you install mFi controller on Windows 10.   Even though the message is about the 2.12 Beta, you might be able to install the 2.11 release if you prefer.
