Or the boss is calling the employees every 10 minutes and micromanaging.

I've seen some of that nonsense first hand.

Re: mFi uFind myKitty

This is old skool. As of this afternoon I have my home mFi system wired up.

I can:
Remotely monitor the indoor and outdoor temperatures.
Get an alarm when our deep freezer breaks.
Open and close my garage door from my iPhone.
Have my garage door auto close if I forget to close it.
Turn on the furnace from my iPhone.
Turn on the furnace only if the desired temperature is greater than the outside temperature.
Get a text on my phone when someone rings the house doorbell.

And I'm just getting started!

Now what you need is a vent fan that comes on when the outdoor temperature is closer to the desired indoor temperature than the current indoor temperature.. i always thought that would be a really good energy saving device.. it seems to stupid when you come home and the house is hot as balls inside, and you run the a/c just to cool it down to the "nice" outdoor temperature.

I've got that in the plan. We have a whole house fan. As soon as the mPowers are out that will be added Man Happy

Nice! I have a couple of questions. What happens when there is motion in the garage, anything, or is it just to log it? - EDIT: It looks like if there is no motion for x amount of time, the door will close automatically..
Do you have a standard garage door opener? How are you telling it to open and close, are you wired into the push button controller or directly to the opener itself? What other parts are involved? I love it, keep up the good work!

It logs the motion. It used to send me a text message, but I was getting woken up at night due to mice in our garage! I guess I need to turn the sensitivity down a bit, as I *would* like to get alerts at night if someone were to break into the garage.
You are correct, in the grand scheme of things (mFi currently lacks scripting, but it is coming very soon) the plan is to say:
* If garageDoorSensor==OPEN && garageMotionNone > 30 minutes { then closeGarageDoor }
It is a standard garage door opener... I forget the brand... maybe Sears? I have a relay board that is wired to the mPort. The relay board is then wired into the push button wiring (which essentially wires directly to the control box).
The *grand* scheme of things is to automate the door opening when the vehicle approaches, but I haven't exactly figured out that part yet...
Once I can do time based conditioning (again, not currently in mFi, but coming) I can do things like, open the garage door automatically at 8:10am, when I normally leave for work, then close 45 seconds after motion is detected, and then not detected.
I'm going to try to get a video of all of this and how it works in a few days.

Hahahaha. My mother in law opened a kitchen cabinet last year to have a very surprised raccoon staring at her.
She ended up breaking an end table, two standing lamps, and a wooden broom before leaving the house in defeat.

Security

I've done my own rather extensive home automation system and chose Z-Wave. Lack of adoption has meant a small market and, unfortunately, expensive products. But the technology, 900MHz, mesh routing, two way communication and encryption made it the best choice at the time.

Can anyone comment on the security aspects of mFi? Is the communication authenticated or encrypted or can I go and borrow Matt's car tonight?
